About Thanjavur
Rising in the Brahmagiri range in the Western Ghats, Cauvery is the heart and soul around which the Tamil land, its people and forms pulsate. The soil is rich for paddy cultivation; and the vegetation and produce from this soil add layers of texture to South Indian cuisine. Besides the Chola Living traditions, Grand Anicut, the first dam built on an Indian river in 150 BCE is functional till today and an engineering marvel to witness. Thanjavur, being the medieval capital city of the Imperial Cholas, lies in the heart of the Cauvery delta from where the legacy of Tamil Nadu cultural heritage and the Great Living Chola Temples can be best experienced through the timeless architecture of the Chola dynasty.
